:: Short Bio
Hi there, somehow, you’ve managed to take an inetrest about me, or you’ve accidentally clicked this link, but anywho, Hajimemashite, my name is Roger, (if you don’t already know) and I am another one of those many bloggers out there.
I live along the East Coast of Australia, in the well heard of city of Sydney. I am still in school, and hence, I still live at home… But some of my friends and I have many hypothetical plans of moving out sometime soon, but whether or not they become reality, is another story. Though most of us do plan on taking a trip to Japan after school’s finished. (Money depending. XD)
Although I am Asian, (a tall one for that matter) I do not speak any language other than English, and have a limited vocabulary of Japanese passively learnt from watching my Anime. (nihongo wa nan desu ka?) With my parents being from Shanghai, China, I speak *some* ‘Shanghainese’, and have a very small understanding of Mandarin.
I am currently aspiring to at least have some creative talent, as, at the moment, I do plan on becoming an Architect ‘when I grow up’. As a result, I am beginning to take an interest in Photography. (hence my photolog) I can’t draw, and neither can I create uber-graphics or anything fancy in terms of webdesign. Yet. A few of my friends and I are also possibly planning to do some sort of video-filming, but we’ll see how that goes.
I hope to use this site as a sort of portfolio or profile of me, in the off chance I ever become famous or something, somehow…
:: Photography
I’m still incredibly amateur (as seen in my photologs) and at the moment, I just like to spam the shutter and hope that I somehow get a good shot. XD Though I am learning a little more about the technical aspects of taking photos as I use my camera more often, and once I am out of school, I hope to do some ‘real photography’ and learn more about the profession.
For the time being, I use my camera to try and capture moments of my daily life, which I often find mundane and repetitive. With a camera and a photolog, I like to use photos to remind myself of (and those around me) of those certain unique moments in my/their lives that are often forgotten about.
At the moment, I use a Canon EOS 550D with the 18-55mm kit lens, as well as a Sigma DG Macro 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 Lens as my “When I want to get the best quality” for photoshoots and ‘momentous occasions’. My take-anywhere camera is a Canon Powershot SX200 IS for my general image capturing needs.
:: Anime/Otaku
Compared to most claimed “Otaku” and hardcore anime fans, I watch/have watched a very small amount of anime. And so, I am still very much just a casual anime watcher, and watch it generally during the spare time I have. I do watch pretty much anything of any genre. What I won’t watch are anime with pointless plots and completely random and out-of-place fanservice. I will generally follow anything RyuKishi07 related because I loved “Higurashi no naku koro ni”, as well as anime that are produced/created by Key/Visual Arts, namely “Kanon”.
Despite my rather short “Anime List”, I do tend to get somewhat obsessed with certain series/characters. And so during times where I could be spending time watching more anime, I’m browsing AmiAmi and Hobby Search looking for related merchandise, and spending my hard earned moneys at those sites. (While my parents frown upon such spending… -_-)
I also have an interest in the creation of Anime Music Videos, and you may find that I’ll sparingly create one out of curiosity. They do take many hours for me, spanning over weeks or sometimes months depending on how lazy I am with the choosing of clips. I’d love to learn more about video editing, and getting to know how to do some uber-trippy special effects, but I don’t have the time at the moment.
:: Gadgets/Technology
I spend a large amount of my time browsing the regularly updated tech blog “Engadget”, and listening to the various podcasts of CNET, namely “Buzz Out Loud” and “Crave”.
My first ‘real’ gadget was when I got myself a “Creative ZEN” for my birthday back in 2007. It was my first Portable Media Player, and I chose it myself as a ‘much better choice than the iPod’. Ever since then, I’ve stayed away from the iPod, going through and buying numerous PMPs (my friends think I’m crazy needing three different media players) and I have currently settled down with the pinnacle of anti-iPod media device; The Zune HD.
Though, don’t get me wrong, I’m far from an Apple hater. (I love the iPhone 4, and I’d love to get one!) I just choose to go the other way, not to ‘stand out’ but more to ‘encourage competition’ and be a part of the minority that tried preventing Apple from brainwashing everyone, and as a result, I use a PC running Windows, and prefer to use Android over iOS, but use a Windows Phone 7 device, the HTC Mozart. (I will admit that I am a bit of a WP7 fanboy, but I’m far from a Microsoft fanboy…)
On a lesser scale, I have interests in photographic tech, (obviously) and audio systems.
