The 17th Biennale Art Festival on Cockatoo Island – 17.07.2010

So, my friend Taylor invited me to go see the Biennale Art Festival on Cockatoo Island, and since work hadn’t rostered me on the day he planned on going, I thought I’d tag along, having not been to Cockatoo Island before, as well as to get to know my DSLR a bit more.

It truly was a beautiful Winter’s day to go out. Beautiful clear sky, light breezes, mild temperature, but wonderfully warm Winter sun.

Mmmmm…. Shiny!

Taylor had been doing a black-and-white photography course during the holidays, using an older-fashioned film camera. I’m curious as to what he has done…

This is the film camera he’s using. A Pentax something with a Sigma 1:2.8 28mm lens. He brought it along to see if he could get some good shots for his project that he has as part of his photography course.

Just a few common shots an Asian tourist would probably take while on the ferry… =P

Ah yes, “Land Ahoy!”, Cameron, Dylan, Gaby and Jack were invited along too.

Mmmm… Lot’s of seagulls… Taylor managed to get a great shot of a Seagull landing on a rock!

When we arrive at the island, there’s this wonderful steel poll that just has to be admired!

Funky colours!

Interesting break for a rock…

Wheee! Exploding cars!

Gaby is super-strong!

A wonderful piano… That moved up and down… When it first went up, we were so expecting it to be dropped!!!

Hi there!

Cockatoo Island is a historic site, as an old convict site, as well as a shipyard. Hence, there are a lot of cranes still hanging around here.

Thought I’d play around with Black and White as well… =P

Wheee! I don’t actually know if this was an artwork, or just decoration, but it was a fun little thing to run through. =P

Floating green plastic $2 strainers!

We then decided to hangout in a grassy area, climbed trees, and took “action shots” Hehe…

Which proves can be tiring…

Cameron also decides to hi-five a cactus…

There are some interesting videos in some of the buildings.

And some interesting religion related works…

Which some are… interesting…

Mmmm…

There was also a room of “dead bodies” which some proved to be ‘too realistic’. This one was of Fidel Castro, and it… breathes… *shivers*

Yeah, a bottle of Ice Tea. =D

Hrmmm… I thought this was an interesting lighting technique…

You can camp on Cockatoo Island. I’m sure there are some booking fees and stuff as well, but the option is there if you want to.

Sunset, and it’s time to go back…

… but not without stealing loads of balloons!!! (Which prove to be troublesome on a boat…

Overall, the trip was way better than I was expecting, and if anyone gets the opportunity to go, I recommend you pay a visit! (Depending on when you go, you may want to pay for the regular Sydney Ferry service, as the free shuttle ferry has long queues… (We went on a Saturday, so maybe that’s why…)
